We all love trees, however sometimes they simply grow too large for their surroundings or become dangerous to nearby buildings and need attention.
It is important to check if you require permission – for example if you live in a conservation area or a tree has a TPO (Tree Preservation Order) on it. Check with your planning office before committing to any work.
For this job planning permission was required to cut the tree as the village of Hessenford is in a conservation area. This means if the tree has a stem diameter greater than 75mm, measured 1.5m above ground level permission must be gained before any works can take place. Permission was applied for and granted by Cornwall Council.
The tree had become very large and was growing outwards over a garden building, creating a growing risk to the structure. Definitely not a task for the amateur and the Husband team were asked to deal with the problem.
Josh carefully set up his ropes and removed the tree in sections safely. The tree was stacked into firewood conveniently on site and the smaller branches chipped by the crew leaving no debris from the works.
You can see the process in this time-lapse video taken of the tree removal near Liskeard in Cornwall.
Hiring a professional to deal with trees ensures the proper steps are taken, including:
- Safety first – always wear the appropriate protective equipment
- Clear the area – ensure the space around the tree is clear and ready to process the cuttings
- Ensure good access considering the tree’s lean, height and surrounding environment
- Plan the fall – anticipate where large portions of the tree will fall and use ropes as needed
- Use the right tools – Have a sharp chainsaw and a bar long enough to accommodate the trees diameter
- Manage the stump – consider grinding the stump and removing roots
- Don’t use a ladder and climb with ropes to ensure stability and remove risk of falling
- Don’t rush – plan the removal carefully and remove at a safe pace
If you have a tree that is becoming a problem give the team a call so they can provide a safe and simple solution.
