Maintaining the perfect Paddock in Devon & Cornwall

Husband Tree and grounds maintenance - Paddock mowingThe Perfect Paddock for your Ponies

(other flora and fauna are included)

Whether you have horses or other livestock, keeping a well-maintained paddock is important for the animals health and happiness. Due to the variable weather in Cornwall and Devon grass grows fast, therefore the Husband team recommend a bi-annual cut – twice a year should maintain good grazing land.

Using the right tools for the job – aka Kubota F3090

This highly desirable professional lawn mower Kubota F3090 is a red, robust agile beast, great for large area cutting, with a top speed of 20km – (perhaps slightly slower with the front cutting deck attached) so the Husband team can tackle practically any size of paddock, domestic or commercial grassed area with excellent productivity.

Husband Tree and grounds maintenance - Paddock mowingTop Tips for Paddock owners

  1. Soil Testing – know your soils pH – this will give you information about nutrient levels – invaluable to determine what fertilisers may be required.
  2. Pick up poo! – If you have time and energy to pick up animal droppings it will improve the look and health of your paddock. Parasites will build up if poo is left and animals won’t graze near their own droppings, so this builds up unsightly rough patches.
  3. Rest is important – not only for yourself (!) but for your paddock – if you have room to divide your grassed area into sections then action this early on, rotating animals every 2-4 weeks – giving grazed areas time to recover and regrow.
  4. Weeds are the enemy – Try to pull up/dig out weeds (properly) – regularly mow the paddock (that’s where we can assist – Call the Husband hotline, get a quote and book a slot 🙂 – you can also discuss Herbicides for any widespread problems with Jamie – they can provide an eco-friendly ‘thermal’ solution – very effective.
  5. Maintenance – Keeping your paddock productive and consistently healthy is a continuous cycle so booking twice a year with Husband to efficiently and professional mow and maintain your large grassed areas is a positive step in the right direction towards providing a safe environment for your animals and a paddock that looks healthy and well cared for.Husband Tree and grounds maintenance - Paddock mowing
